The rising cost of electricity

“It is quite possible that by 2020, the cost of energy to consumers could be two to three times what it is today.” Grant King, Chief Executive, Origin Energy, April 2010.

According the Australian Bureau of Statistics, the price of electricity in our capital cities has increased dramatically since March 2007:

Melbourne: +61.1%
Sydney: +42.6%
Brisbane +39.6%
Adelaide +24.8%

And that’s just the start of it. Experts predict these prices to double again over the next decade, meaning the average annual household electricity bill would rise from $1,467 to $2,934 (that’s $733 every quarter). So, even if someone didn’t care about our planet or our children’s future, they might be convinced to go solar to take the pressure off their own hip-pocket.
